Troop 146 will backpack the "Three T's" June
12-13th. This backpack
is mandatory for all scouts and
adults wishing to go on the 50 mile backpack
this summer.
We will meet at 6 am Saturday at the Rancho
Vista Von's parking lot behind the Chevron
station and be on the road by 6:30am. We
will arrive at Mount
Baldy information center
at 8am to get our wilderness permit. We
will then drive to the chair lift past
Manker Flat and ride up to Baldy Notch.
From there we will hike 7.5 miles with about
2700' of elevation gain to Thunder Peak, Telegraph
Peak, Timber Peak and then to Kelly
remote camp. Sunday we will hike out the
remaining 4.6 miles and arrive back at the
Rancho Vista Vons' parking lot around 3pm.
The chair lift will cost $12/ person and
the freeze
dried food will
cost $15. We will need at least 2 vehicles
and 4 adults to make the necessary vehicle
transfers from Manker Flat to Ice House
Station. The map shows 11 miles, but the
actual mileage is about 12 miles.
